Abstract

Adhesive tapes are made by coating with adhesives, pref. fusible, based on copolymerised and/or transversally crosslinked polymers. One or more polymers are homogenised at 130-160 degrees C, pref. by mixing, and applied onto a support, followed y the co-reacting product or the crosslinking agent so that copolymerisation or crosslinking takes place on the support. The co-reacting product or crosslinking agent are pref. applied to the support by immersion, or by spraying onto it. It can be in molten form, or in an organic solvent, pref. mineral oil. Pref. polymers are: butadiene-styrene, isoprene, natural rubber, butylchlorinated rubber, ethylene-propylene polymers. Transversal crosslinking of these polymers is pref. effected by bridges of O,S,N, urea-urethane or methylene, between the polymer chains. Copolymerisation is pref. effected with phenols and/or terphenols. No inflammable or toxic solvent is required, nor large quantities of plasticiser, giving low resistance to rupture under load. The present invention enables fusible adhesives to be used, but with good resistance to rupture under load, thus enabling the adhesive tapes to be used in industry, and for packaging. This is effected by charging thermoplastic properties to thermosetting properties.
