Abstract
The gravity drier is divided into a pre-heating zone (3), a drying zone (4) and a cooling zone (5). To heat the air to be used for drying, a refrigeration cycle which acts as a heat pump is provided instead of an oil-burning air heater or an air heater using steam or hot water. The air required for the total drying of the material to be dried is circulated in a closed cycle through the drying zone (4) and the cooling zone (5), the air being heated in the condenser (17) of the refrigeration cycle before it enters the drying zone (4), and cooled in the evaporator (19) of the refrigeration cycle after leaving the drying zone (4) and before entering the cooling zone (5). These measures allow more economical heating or cooling of the drying air.
