Abstract

An explosive for use as a detonator for an explosive charge in ammunition is prepd. in a succession of small quantities, each determined according to a preselected requirement. The explosive may be prepd. in situ and at a relatively slow rate. The rate of prodn. is pref. not appreciably faster than the rate at which the explosive is required for detonators. Specifically, the explosive prepd. is a styphnate and components are allowed to react to form a primary explosive and a by-product which is retained in the prepn. The appts. usd pref. includes a number of dispensing devices each of which deposits a predetermined quantity of material into respective receivers.
