Abstract
Thesludge is received into a primary flocculating, rotary drum inside, a coaxial contra-rotating filter drum. The flocculating drum delivers into a pre-dehydrating, rotary drum from which sludge is spread via a distributor onto an endless first filter band. The loaded, first filter band is lapped around the filter drum under pressure of an outer, driving filter band. This first pair of filter bands delivers to successive filter bands, zig-zag lapped between pressure rollers to achieve adequate drainage. The flocculating drum pref. has central, coaxial inlet and outlet and is supplied with a mixt. of sludge and flocculating agent. Filtrate passing into the filter drum via perforations in its circumference is pref. discharged to the sides of the drum by deflectors. Paddles are pref. provided on the exterior of the flocculating drum to assist lateral discharge of filtrate. Used for dehydrating sludge discharged from waste water purificn. processes. The installation is inexpensive to install and simple and cheap to run, requiring negligible maintenance. It produces a dehydrated prod. of desirable homogeneity, density etc. It eliminates a supplementary flocculation station. The design lends itself to a packaged, mobile construction which could be used at several sites.
