Abstract

Crude mixt. for preparing refractory, high alumina cement contains, by wt., 69-73% alumina component (calculated as Al2O3), 11-23% lime component (calculated as CaO) and 20-4% chloride of Mg, Ca, Ba, Sr, Na and/or K. Metal chlorides act as catalytic additives and intensify clinker formation. A liquid phase is formed acting as reaction medium at 700-900 degrees C. Clinker can be formed at 1000-1300 degrees C, i.e. catalytic additives can lower burning temp. by 300-350 degrees C. Grinding power can be reduced 1.2-1.5x.
