Abstract

1361271 Metal aluminate cements; cements FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 20 June 1972 [1 July 1971] 30932/71 Headings C1A and C1H A metal aluminate or aluminate containing cement is made by initiating an exothermic reaction between a metal salt of an oxygen containing acid and elemental aluminium to form a molten or sintered aluminate product. The metal salt is preferably the nitrate, sulphate, carbonate, phosphate, chlorate, acetate, chromate or silicate of lithium or an alkaline earth metal and the reaction mixture may also include alumina, a boron compound or silica. Examples show the preparation of a barium aluminate cement from 82% BaSO 4 and 18% Al, a calcium aluminate cement from 66À5% CaSO 4 and 33À5% Al and a barium aluminate cement containing 4% by wt. of lithium from 70% BaSO 2 , 15% LiOH and 15% Al.
