Abstract

Daylight press for mfr. of laminates has 2 horizontal pressure plates of which >=1 moves w.r.t. the other, in whose nip the intended laminate is subjected to laminating pressure. The mobile plate is moved by the change of the vol. of a flexible hollow body to which a pressure medium can be applied. The flexible body is arranged between that side of the pressure plate furthest away from the pressing surface and a support surface. The hollow body is a relatively large pressure pad. The curved zones of the pressure pad are freely mobile and are subjected only to tensile stress when the press performs its up-stroke. The motion of the walls of the pressure pad occasioned by applying of lifting pressure defines lines of pressure and compression forces (Ai,bi) which are interrupted, at the corners of the pressure pad by changes in the cross-section of the closed system. Risk of 'kinks' near the corners of the pressure pad is eliminated.
