Abstract
The structure capable of rocking is submerged into deep water. The column shaped structure rests on a ball connector on a heavy base and the column top carried a platform above water level. The centre line of the column remains vertical although the column may follow rocking movements caused by ocean currents. The pivoted joint at the bottom of the column is formed of two hemispherical seats. The column is loaded with ballast near its base. The whole weight of the arrangement consisting of ballast, column and platform is greater than the maximum buoyancy force acting on the column in case of maximum swell. The ball joint is at all times subjected to the compression. The contacting elements of the pivoted connection are made of cast, non-machined metal. The contacting surfaces are ground in situ. and a flushing liquid together with the abraded metal particles is injected into the two components in contact. The process is carried out due to the metal to metal contact.
