Abstract

A filter with an integral cleaning system is described. The washing system comprises spray nozzles on a tube connected to the water supply. The tube with the nozzles is moved on a carriage to and fro along the length of the filter, being supported on a horizontal rail parallel with the top of the filter case. The traction is provided by means of a hydraulic motor which is integrated with the cleaning fluid circuit. The motor may either be stationary and linked to the movable carriage by means of a chain transmission or may itself be mounted on the carriage. The system eliminates the use of an electric motor and the electric circuitry necessary to produce the directional changes needed at each end of the rail. This means that the difficulties of operating an electric motor so close to spraying nozzles and the periodic maintenance necessary to an electric motor are removed.
