Abstract

The transmission coupling consists of an input shaft (1) rotated by the helicopter motor, which transmits the rotation through reduction gearing to the drive shaft (2) of the lifting rotor and to the drive shaft (3) of the tail rotor. The output shaft of the reduction gear (4) drives a shaft (5) on which is mounted a free wheel (6) permitting a coupling between two rotating pieces in one sense of rotation only. On the exterior crown of the free wheel is a toothed wheel (7), which drives a reduction gear (8) attached to the drive shaft of the lifting rotor, and a conical cog (9a) which drives a conical gear (9b) on the drive shaft of the tail rotor. The free wheel allows autogyration of the rotors in the event of engine failure.
