Abstract

The deck is constructed in the form of a water-tight hull so that it floats and comprises >=2 separate pieces which are assembled after positioning on the support structure. The rig is assembled by immersing the support structure to a depth such that the part to which the deck will be fixed is level with the deck. After being fixed the platform is floated up again, when it can be towed out to its installation site. It allows the mounting of a prefabricated deck constructed in either concrete or steel. The method of assembly eliminates the use of barges or cranes when placing the deck on the support structure. Mounting of the deck with most, or in some cases all, of its equipment in place, is possible. It reduces the delay normally experienced in mounting the deck and its equipment. Security of the platform during assembly is increased. In facilitating the construction, the cost is reduced.
