Abstract

Prepn. of mixts. of pentaerythritol carbamates R4OCH2C-(CH2OR4)2-CH2CO.NH2 (Ia) and polyalkylene-glycol ether carbamates R4 (O-CHR6-CHR6)p-O.CONH2 (Ib) and/or alkylalkylene-glycol carbamates R5-O-CHR6-CHR6O.CONH2 (Ic), is carried out by reacting pentaerythritol C(CH2OH2)4 (IIa) and a polyalkylene-glycolether diol H (O-CH2R6-CH2-R6)p-OH (IIb) and/or an alkyl-alkenyleneglycol R5-O-CHR6-CHR6-OH (IIc) with urea, in the presence of a Ni on-exchanger. In the formulae R4 is H or -CONH2, R5 is an aliphatic gp. R6 is H or aliphatic gp. and p = 2-20. By methylation the mixts. give permant finishes, resistant to creasing and chlorinated washing agents. High yields are obtd. rapidly giving a pure prod. which may be reacted directly with HCHO to give finishing agents.
