Abstract
Adaptor for reducing the amt. of material vapour deposited on and dirtying an objective used for beam focussing is claimed, esp. during microspectral analysis using a laser beam or in the laser machining of materials. The novelty is that the front surface of the objective is provided with a housing leading to an aperture through which the beam passes; and the bore of the aperture has a tooth-shaped profile. The bore of the aperture pref. increases towards the interior of the housing, and a ring may be located at the larger end of the hole in the housing. A cooling device may be fitted on the housing. When dirt is deposited on the laser objective, reproducible results cannot be obtd. in either spectral analysis or laser cutting. The invention avoids these problems.
