Abstract

The control mechanism for a glass panelled sash window does not have a counterweight. It is mounted in a vertical frame with U-shaped top and side beams and a baseplate. Each side strut encloses a movable wooden beam (11) supporting guide rails for the sliding windows. Six to ten leaf springs (13,14) are screwed (15) to the beam (11). A wooden block (17) is mounted on the baseplate at the bottom of each beam. The window operating mechanism is attached to a support on a horizontal axis with a pinion (26) in an oil-filled space. The pinion is externally linked to a handle. Another horizontal pinion (35) meshes with the first (26), and is attached to a vertical bar in which there is a helical groove. Into this fits the finger of a sleeve attached to the window-lifting cables.
