Abstract

The heating and injection of petroleum jelly into the spaces between individual insulated conductors, and between them and the cable sleeve prevents water penetration along the cable length dut to damage at some point in the sleeve. The heating arrangement prevents local overheating of the jelly and to maintain its liquid state during injection. Pressure is exerted on the jelly by a piston plate (3) having a central outlet tube (4) containing a screw type pump (13). The piston carries a heating winding (11) providing the initial melting the liquid state being maintained by a further heater along the delivery tube (6) to the injector.
