Abstract

The sampling of liquids for analysis is described. The appts. incorporates a means to make the liq. circulate in a flexible tube extended into a fine bore tube. One form of the means of circulation is a peristaltic pump, or a pump with rollers. Before the sampling, the fine-bore tube is placed in a rinsing liq. and the pump is started to fill the appts. with this liq. The vol. of the sample taken is determined by a particular number of turns of the rotor. The discharge end of the pump is positioned over the receiver. After the sampling, the fine-bore tube is immersed again in the rinsing liq. and the pump is activated, the discharge end being directed towards the receiver, or towards a drain pipe, according to whether the whole liq. is wanted, or not. The appts. is rinsed with a vol. of liq. equal to several times its own internal vol. The method avoids the disadvantages of using a pipette and reduces the errors.
