Abstract

Heat exchanger device is intended for collecting radiant energy and comprises collector plates coated with an absorbent coating and connected together to form ducts for the circulation of a heat removal fluid. The collector plate comprises a series of generally parallel grooves in which the generally parallel arms of a meandering pipe nest and are integrally connected to the plate, e.g. by welding or soldering. The plate has an undulating or corrugated profile with straight segments between the curved regions and the generally parallel longitudinal lengths of the pipe and the corresponding grooves are located in the centre of the these flat regions. In one embodiment each straight length of pipe runs centrally along a straight length of an undulation, the undulation thus having very long straight arms c.f. with short U-shaped bends. Pref. the undulations are in a plane perpendicular to the general plane of the straight lengths of pipe. Used esp. as a solar heat collecting panel for use in walls or roofs of buildings, but is also suitable for collecting radiation from other sources, e.g. molten metals.
