Abstract

A rotary drum dryer suitable for dehydrating agricultural products, particularly animal fodder uses a humidity control system with automatic operation of at least one of the mechanisms acting on the charge during drying combined with at least one of the generating conditions. These conditions can be the fuel supply, water to be removed, and the calorific value, the temperature, carbon dioxide content of the air entering and leaving the apparatus. The mechanism can be combined with a known automatic control system which alters the calorific value and the quantity of material while the temperature is kept constant. The treatment time of the product being treated and the gas supply can be automatically controlled taking account of an automatic measurement of the dryness combined with at least one of the automatic control elements. Alternatively the automatic control system for the hot gas supply temperature and its discharge temperature is combined with one of the automatic controls.
