Abstract

The open fire has its hearth supported above floor level. A heat recuperation system uses a double chimney. The inner chimney is made of sheet metal with a funnel shaped part at the bottom and a vertical part of reduced cross sectional size. These can be made of standard prefabricated members. The outer chimney is made of more decorative materials, suitably shaped to form a heat recuperating chamber around the inner chimney. Cold fresh air enters through a gap around the base of the outer chimney and leaves through a gap at the top after having been warmed by heat exchange.
