Abstract

To seal the gap between the metal sheets (1, 2) when they are spot welded by the electrodes (3, 4), a mixture of metallic globules (12) and a plastic sealing compound (11) is used. The material of the globules is suitable for welding to the sheets so that the globule (7) which lies in the path of the welding current is fused to both sheets. For convenience of manufacture the globules (12) and plastic sealing compound (11) may be supplied in a deformable tube which is flattened by passing it between rollers before applying it to the joint surfaces. Globules which are a mixture of metal and ceramic may also be used.
