Abstract

The silencer is intended for attenuating exhaust noise from a combustion engine and is of the type in which the exhaust gas flows through a number of damping chambers (3) which are interconnected. The gas flows through an exhaust pipe (1) which extends through the lower ends of the chambers and communicates with each of the chambers via a number of orifices (5) provided in a cross-sectional plane in the wall of the pipe. The exhaust may flow through a bundle of pipes of which at least one extends along the bottom of the chambers. The pipe may have an oblong rectangular cross-section which extends over the full height of the chambers, and communicate with the chambers via upright narrow slots.
