Abstract

The sandwich panel comprises a core of asbestos fibre-based refractory material, pref. asbestos cement, onto each side of which is moulded a panel of reinforced synthetic resin, pref. self-extinguishing glass fibre-reinforced polyester resin. The sandwich panel is mfd. by spraying into a first section of a mould a mixt. of resin contg. glass fibres in an even layer, and allowing it to polymerise partially. A panel of asbestos-cement is applied to this layer while still tacky. Into the second section of the mould is sprayed a second layer of resin contg. glass fibres, the second section is pressed against the first, and the whole assembly is left to polymerise.
