Abstract

A forced flow air circulation system for a chimney (1) forming a drying tower for cooling heat echangers or compressors, has a horizontal rotor (3) which draws the air from under the chimney and forces it upwards through the chimney. This rotor has a ring (4) spaced from its hub (5) by sloping blades (7). The main blades (3) extend radially outwards from this ring. The hub is driven by a motor (10) through a vertical drive shaft (6) between them. Rotation is also assisted by an auxiliary fan (8) mounted underneath, driven by its own motor (12). Both motors are mounted inside a tube (9) at the bottom of the chimney, which receiver air (B) from underneath, from the inlet air (A+B). Alternatively, a turbine can be used instead of the (main) fan.
