Abstract

The corkscrew is operated by an external crank moving a threaded piston in a body gripping the bottle neck. This reduces the effort required to insert the extractor screw and remove the cork. The body (5) is threaded internally (11) to accept the piston (17). The crank inserts the extractor (1) into the cork (2) when turned clockwise, a spring loaded dog clutch (10, 24) maintaining the drive. The crank is rotated anticlockwise to extract the cork. This disengages the dog clutch as the piston rises, the extractor screw remaining stationary. A follower bar (27) operates between slots (28) in the corkscrew body, providing a stop and guide.
