Abstract

The cracking of concrete is examined by preparing a concrete test piece each end of which is attached longitudinally to a joining piece, then maintaining constant the length of the test piece by exerting on >=1 of the joining pieces a controllable force in the longitudinal direction and measuring the intensity of that force. Alternatively variations of length of the test piece are measured. Cracking due to shrinkage of the material can be observed since the length is kept constant.
