Abstract

Non-sulphided ores are enriched by (a) classifying the ore to obtain particles of size suitable for flortation, (b) mixing the ore into an aq. medium, (c) treating the slurry with a mixt. of (I) 5-99 wt. % of a vegetable or animal fatty acid and (II) 95-1% of a partial ester of formula R'O-(CH2-CH2O)n-CH2CH2O-CO-R-COOH, where R' is an 8-18C prim. or sec. alkyl gp.; n=0-10; and R is -(CH2)m- in which m=1-6, -CH=CH-, -CHOH-CH2-, -CHOH-CHOH-, o-, m- or p-phenylene, o-, m- or p- or -C6H10-, and (d) carrying out foam flotation of the ore. The claimed ores are a phosphated rock, fluorite, barytine, and a cement rock. (II) acts as a synergist, smaller amt. of (I) are needed and greater ore recovery is achieved. Excessive foaming is avoided. The rare vegetable and animal fatty acids are partly replaced by cheap, easily available synthetic acids.
