Abstract

The hand-lever (10) operated mechanism controls the infusion cycle of a coffee making machine. The mechanism has a horizontal (15) and a vertical rack (1) which are displaced by rotating gear wheels (9, 14) enmesh with one another, and the gear wheel (9) associated with the vertical rack (1) is rotated by the hand lever (10). The mechanism meters material quantities, confines and compresses the coffee charge, effects injection and finally extracts the coffee residue. All operations are synchronised and effected by the manipulation of the lever (10). Details may include a piston (6) which is mounted on a cantilever arm (2) from the vertical rack (1), and moves down to confine and compress the charge (8). The metering and extraction operations are effected by the horizontal rack (15) with a pivoting push rod (24) displacing a lower piston (17). Springs (7) effect recoil.
