Abstract
1,123,599. Moulding machines. W. A. HUNTER, and M. E. HUNTER, [trading as HEATHERWILL CO.]. 10 Nov., 1965 [16 Nov., 1964], No. 47763/65. Heading B3F. In an automatic matchplate moulding machine 25 there is provided, in a first position, a drag flask 37 with a matchplate 38 mounted thereon, carried by a yoke member 39 which is rotatable about a horizontal axis by means 113 to invert the flask and permit the filling thereof with moulding sand from a hopper 46 via a metering hopper 47, the flask, when filled and compacted, by vibratory means (not shown), being covered by a bottom board, extracted from the bottom of a stack S by means 87, 81a and 82a, inverted to an erect position by means 113 and displaced laterally by ram means 107 to a second position for co-operation with a cope flask. The drag flask 37 is supported, in the second position, on a platen 117 of a ram member 28 which is actuated to raise the filled drag flask and matchplate into abutment with the cope flask 122. At the same time the metering hopper 47 containing a given quantity of sand is moved laterally to co-operate with the cope flask which is then filled therefrom. The hopper 47 is then withdrawn by means 129 which movement aligns the squeeze head 132 carried on the hopper supporting frame, with the filled cope and drag flasks. The ram is then further raised to effect final compaction of the mould sand by the squeeze head 28. The ram is then lowered which permits separation of the cope and drag flasks from the matchplate pattern, the cope flask being held against stop members 125 and the drag mould is slipped from its flask so that the drag flask and matchplate can be returned to the first position for refilling. The drag mould is then raised by the ram 28 to abut the cope which is slipped from its flask 122, the completed mould being lowered until the ram 28 is in its initial position, the mould being laterally displaced from the machine 25 on to a conveyer CT by the movement of a subsequently formed drag mould and flask in the next cycle of operation. The machine described functions with a continuous cycle of operation.
