Abstract

A stylus cleaning mechanism is used in a record player with a pivoting stylus arm. A brush with several bristles (21) fixed in a holder (22) is mounted on a support (11) located close to the turntable beneath the path of a sliding housing in which the stylus arm is carried. A tripping mechanism (39) rotates the stylus arm about an axis parallel to the turntable so that the stylus (35) extends far enough out of the housing to be engaged by the bristles when the housing is in the rest position or between rest and playing positions. The height of the holder in relation to the top of the turntable is such that with the housing in the rest position the stylus is supported by the bristles at a height corresponding to that at which it contacts the record surface.
