Abstract

A furnace (1) has its products of combustion led to a precipitator (5). The gases leave via a chimney while the solids collect in a hopper (6). They pass through a valve (9) into a second hopper shaped container (10) where they are fluidised. A venturi (17, 18) entrains air through grilles (11, 12) and carries the dust to a nozzle (21) which is designed to emit the fluidised particles faster than their speed of flame propagation. High and low level indicators on the hopper (6) are used to control the process. Size reduction of the unburnt particles by up to 80 per cent is possible.
