Abstract
The shutter has an optically controlled aperture and comprises a two-mirror interferometer (2, 4) which is transparent at a known wavelength, a body (8) placed between the two mirrors whose absorption may be saturated at this particular wavelength, and an optical system (10) which sends an optical pulse into the body at a selected instant. This pulse is able to saturate the body's absorption. The obturator is thus transparent at the given wavelength when the body's absorption is saturated during the light pulse duration, and is reflecting when the absorption is not saturated outside the duration of the light pulse. The interferometer may be of the Fabry-Perot type with two plane parallel mirrors (2, 4). The device may be used in the extraction of optical energy from a laser tube.
