Abstract

The roller bearing has an inset end, which may be a cap in which lubricant may be held, or a cylindrical extension to connect and locate another part of the machine. An outer sleeve (4) is held in a housing (3) and forms the outer track for the rollers (5) in a cage (6). the inset part (8) has a radial flange (9) which butts against a shoulder (10) formed inside the end of the sleeve. To retain the inset in place, the end of the sleeve (11) is bent radially inwards outside the flange. If the inset forms a deep cap (8), this can be used as a reservoir for lubricant, simultaneously preventing ingress of dirt and moisture. The radial flange of the inset also provides an end stop for the roller cage.
