Abstract

The mouldings are produced by simultaneously spraying into a mould a phenolic resin, glass fibres, an acid catalyst and also, as an improvement, an anhydrous and hydrophilic inorganic cpd. in an amt. 8-12 wt % based on the resin. The cpd. is pref. CaSO4 hemihydrate or B2O3 in a finely divided state. The hydrophilic inorganic cpd. absorbs the water released during curing of the resin so that the moulding does not have micropores which are otherwise formed through evapn. of free water. The process also avoids prior art problems associated with premixing inorganic fillers with the resin to improve the fire proofing props. of the glass reinforced moulding.
