Abstract

A brake mounted alongside a railway track, with braking members brought in contact with the rims of the wheels of the wagon, as used in a shunting yard, has a braking member mounted each side of the rail and the wheel each with its own actuator operated by pressure fluid. The mechanical operating system for each, includes a plane above the level of the cross members which support the system so that the member is swung on a carrier mounted between two cross members. The actuator cylinder is also between the two cross members. The opposite end of the arm swings about a reaction support also across two cross members. The actuator cylinder is positioned partially sunk below the level of the cross members.
