Abstract

Appts. described in the parent patent incorporates a generator and two electrodes, one connected to one of the poles of the generator. The generator supplies current pulses in one direction. One electrode, the back electrode, is insulated from the other, the front electrode, by an insulating plate or layer. The front electrode is in the form of a grid covering the insulating plate or layer on the treatment side. The back electrode is connected to the positive pole of the generator. The improvements are (1) the insulating plate or layer is made of plastic material and insulates the rear electrode from the gas being treated in a treatment space in which the appts. establishes potential gradients; (2) the rear electrode is a continuous plate with prominences uniformly distributed over the face turned towards the front electrode, each protuberance coinciding with a hole in the grid; (3) the insulating plate or layer has point zones which have a greater dielectric constant and a smaller thickness than that of the rest of the plate, uniformly distributed and each coinciding with a hole in the grid; and (4) the back electrode, the insulating plate or layer, and the front electrode are joined.
