Abstract

The access hole to the drain or sewer is rectangular and provided with a metal liner (4) which terminates at the ground surface in a shoulder (3) surrounded by vertical edge (2). The cover (5) fits in the shoulder (3) and has a downward projecting ridge (6). The cover (5) is retained by the bolt (12) wh ich passes through the central boss (17) and engages the thread in the boss (11) of the retaining ring (9). When the bolt (12) is tightened the ring (9) compresses the sealing ring (8), forcing it against the liner (4). This seals the sewer, preventing the escape of objectionable odours and at the same time secures the cover (5).
