Abstract

The aerator is of the type using a pressurised jet of liq. to create a moving stream in the surface of liq. in the treatment tank and at the same time to aerate the liq. The jet is delivered from a nozzle with its axis inclined to the surface, i.e pref. at about 30 degrees to the horizontal. A tube inside and pref. coaxial with the nozzle delivers compressed air into an annular jet of liq. as it leaves the nozzle. Outside the nozzle, the compressed air tube pref. has provision for its intake end to be fitted with an air filter. Used for continuously oxygenating liq. in an activated sludge system for purifying waste water. The design greatly enhanced entrainment of air into the jet.
