Abstract
Amines are converted into mono-, di- and polyisocyanates by phosgenation under pressure and at high temps. in the presence of one and the same solvent. The process comprises feeding to a reactor an annular stream of an amine-monochlorobenzene mixt. inside and around which concentric streams of a phosgene-monochlorobenzene are respectively allowed to flow. Phosgenation is accelerated with reduced formation of by-prods. e.g. polyurea. The tubular reactor can therefore be operated during longer periods than in prior art reactors (e.g. for 6 days instead of =3 days).
