Abstract

PURPOSE: Bodies of Paris verticillata M.v. Bieb are extracted to obtain ecdysones used as an insect metamorphosis hormon in high yield with industrial advantage.
CONSTITUTION: For example, Paris verticillata, M.v. Bieb is extracted with a solvent such as methanol and the extract is concentrated to give the primary extract. Then, the extract is extracted with a solvent of butanol-water system and the organic layer of the extract is concentrated under reduced pressure to give the secondary extract. The product is subjected to column chromatography and the eluate is acetylated. The product is subjected to column chromatography again and the eluate is hydrolyzed to give ecdysone of formula I. The eluate of the secondary extract is treated with Sephadex LH-20 and eluted to give a flavonol derivative of formula II (R is H, -D-glucose), a new compound, used as a hypotensor.
