Abstract

The machine is for large scale cooking operation involving the roasting of meat portions by rotating on spit (7) above an open hearth. The machine operates continuously, feeding loaded spits along a horizontal path which traverses the hearth. The spits are continuously rotated as they follow the linear path, and the rate of spit travel can be adjusted to obtain optimum cooking results. The machine comprises twin parallel chains of sawtooth indented cog-wheels (1) which are fed along horizontal racks (3). Notched straps (5) connect each cog-wheel axle, and a cruciform section spit (7) lodges in each notch to be engaged and rotated by the adjacent cog-wheels. The spits span between the twin chains.
