Abstract

The vehicle ignition has a conventional ignition key switch (12) as well as an electronic security interlock. This has a code input terminal (1) and a decoder (3). If the correct code is inserted then the ignition key can be operated to start the car. The code input can be a combination lock, a set of switches operated in the correct sequence or any other electro-mechanical input. After the correct code is inserted the ignition remains active for a limited period. If the ignition key is not operated in this period then the security interlock is reset. Bridging the ignition lock will not start the vehicle.
