Abstract
Tricarbonates (I) of trimethylolpropane, of formula CH3-CH2-C- CH2-O-CO-O-R 3 (where R is a 4-12C (un)branched alkyl, cycloalkyl opt. substd. by lower alkyl gp(s)., aryl opt. substd. by lower alkyl gp(s)., or aralkyl opt. substd. by lower gp(s) are new cpds. (I) are prepd. by the reaction CH3-CH2-C- CH2-O-CO-Cl 3+3ROH CH3-CH2-C- CH2-O-CO-O-R 3+CHl. (I) are used partic. as base for heat-stable lubricants, esp. for supersonic aircraft. The lubricant is not corrosive, and has good residual viscosity, avoiding breakdown of the oil film. The lubricant can be used at between -30 degrees C and 250 degrees C.
