Abstract

The ester lubricants contain as anti-oxidants (A) a small amount of tert. amine NRR1R2 (in which R and R1 are 6-22C aryl and R2 is 7-22C aralkyl, >=1 being substd. with 1-12C alkyl) and (B) a smaller amount of tert. amine NRR1R2 or sec. N,N-diaromatic amine. At least one of R, R1 and R2 is pref. substd. with amino, halogen, NO2, OH, or 1-12C alkoxy. The lubricants may also contain 0.5-10 wt % P-contg. ester as flame retardant and =1 wt % triazole as metal de-activator. Use of tert. amines reduces sludge formation at high temps. and markedly improves oxidation stability.
