Abstract

A tower is used to rotate ladles above tundishes feeding a row of oscillating moulds over parallel vertical casting tracks. The tracks are fitted with batteries of elements such as guide rolls, cooling devices, extn. devices, cutting devices and billet tilters; all the plant is located in a rigid substantial frame. There is an intermediate floor on which the mould oscillators are fixed. Housings are provided round each casting track and contain the billet extractor and cooling devices, the housing being accessible from the opposite side to that on which the mould oscillators are mounted. The ladle tower uses a small dia. pillar. Easy accessibility for the maintenance and repair of e.g. four casting tracks located below a row of four moulds in a very large scale plant.
