Abstract

The self-supporting wire mesh reinforcement for use in the external concrete coating of an undersea steel pipe has spacer legs which ensure that the requisite radial distance between the mesh and the pipe is maintained during the high pressure jet application of the concrete. The reinforcement comprises metal wires (1, 2) welded into a mesh form, and at least two parallel longitudinal lines of elements or legs project beneath the major mesh plane. Pref. the legs take the form of 90 deg. terminal returns (3) of transverse wires (1), or 'V' or 'U' shaped indentations (4) provided on intermediate sections of the transverse wires. The mesh is galvanised and of square or rectangular pattern. The indented links (4) are originally longer than plain links and the legs are fashioned in advance of mesh utilisation.
