Abstract
A feed-water preheater for a nuclear power plant is located between feed pump and reactor and is of the vertical type, with the water flowing through the tubes and steam of different pressures, from various parts of the plant, flowing around the tubes. The lower part of the preheater casing is an expansion vessel for that portion of the steam which is at a higher pressure than the remainder. Pref. a screen plate separates moisture from expanding steam coming from a high pressure source and collects condensate from the water tubes (17) above. The condensate leaves the vessel at the bottom (8;10). Used for the large feed-water preheaters required in a nuclear power plant. The arrangement shown saves considerably space and expense by comparison with a system where the expansion vessel is separate from the preheater.
