Abstract

The air conditioning unit has a casing (3) which is fixed to an outside wall and has passages for supply and exhaust air through it. It contains two heat exchangers (4, 5) linked by a compressor expansion valve assembly. This forms a heat pump transferring heat from the heat exchanger (5) acting as evaporator to the heat exchanger (4) acting as condenser. In winter air from outdoors is drawn in over the condenser (B-D) and is heated by heat removed from the exhaust air which flows over the evaporator (A-C). In summer, air flows over the evaporator (B'-D') and the heat removed from it is rejected to the exhaust air which flows over the condenser (A'-C'). The unit contains changeover dampers which change the flows from winter to summer modes.
