Abstract

The electronic control for the automatic gear box has a generator driven by the output shaft of the transmission, with the frequency and amplitude of the signal defining the speed of the shaft. A second signal is produced by a torque monitor on the engine so that a signal can be calculated, corresponding to the loading of the vehicle. The reference signal is stored, along with the new optimum gear change points so that subsequent gear change points can be altered accordingly to produce optimum gear change conditions.
