1427430 Dynamo-electric machines A K EDWARDS 25 June 1974 [28 March 1973] 14796/73 Heading H2A In a combination of a vehicle engine, a D.C. electric machine, a storage battery and control gear, the D.C. machine has a field member and an armature member, one member being coupled to the engine crank-shaft and the other to an output shaft, the control gear being interconnected with the battery and the D.C. machine so that, in use, the D.C. machine may be operated, as desired, as a starter motor, as a generator or as a torque transmitter, in which last mentioned mode of operation the output shaft of the D.C. machine rotates in the opposite direction to that of the crank-shaft, for forward movement of the vehicle.
