Abstract

Box or tub has a plastic body with an integral lid (I) surrounded by a vertical flange which can accept a removable cover, incorporates two zones of weakness each forming a closed pattern: one zone follows the border of the lid, to allow the whole lid to be removed ; one zone defines a smaller panel which may be opened to permit filling or emptying of the container. Used esp. for packing bulk food or other goods which deteriorate if exposed to the atmos. Reliance on joints or seals between dissimilar materials, e.g. plastic bodies and foil lined capds, to maintain an airtight seal at the top, is obviated.
